Banjo Glass: Creation, Culture, and the Alchemy of Connection 2 [King Hero Interview]

Banjo Glass Part 2: Organic Culture Creation

In our first conversation, Banjo Glass and I laid the groundwork for asking a bigger question:
How does a culture create itself?
For Part 2, we're going deeper.
Banjo has spent decades inside two remarkable cultural phenomena. One emerged around the Grateful Dead, creating a community that continues to ripple through generations. The other is one he helped bring into being himself: the world of functional glass.
What interests me most isn't simply the art, it's the anthropology.
How does something come from nothing?
How does a small group of people create an enduring culture without permission, central planning, or institutional support?
How does a creative movement sustain families, livelihoods, traditions, mentorship, and innovation over decades?
We'll explore Banjo's journey from artist to one of the people who helped establish an entirely new artistic tradition—one that has continued to evolve long after its beginnings.
We'll also discuss a recent milestone in his career, where his work was featured purely for its artistic merit in a non-functional glass exhibition. Rather than pursuing acceptance from the fine art world, recognition found him through years of dedicated creation.
Inside this conversation we'll explore:
-
what makes a culture organic
-
the evolution of the functional glass movement
-
the influence of the Grateful Dead band and community
-
creating something from nothing
-
supporting a family through art and entrepreneurship
-
how communities preserve and transmit values
-
recognition that arises naturally through meaningful work
-
what culture can teach us about the growth of the human spirit
Much of modern culture is designed for us.
But people continue to create culture for themselves.
Whenever individuals gather around shared purpose, shared values, and genuine creation, something alive begins to emerge.
That's the conversation I'm most looking forward to.
Join us live.

If we're just meeting...
I’m Beth Martens—founder of the House of Free Will, pattern hunter, archetype reader, podcaster, author, coach trainer, and
business coach. My calling has truly been a life-or-death matter. After a decade as a corporate VP in my family’s firm, eight transformative trips to India, and a three-year battle with cancer nearly 25 years ago, I turned to archetypes and deep deprogramming work to save my life.
Despite doing everything wrong based on limited health knowledge, I accessed the hidden inner roots of what was keeping me sick, stuck, and unconscious. Letting those patterns go changed everything. I went from dying to living almost overnight.
Today, I help people who love truth more than their beliefs—people who want to serve with their life’s work and walk their Hero’s Journey—to deprogram the beast system from within and stop unconsciously feeding the forces that harm us.
I host the King Hero interview series, where I spotlight leaders, entrepreneurs, movement makers, and lovers of freedom who are carving new paths in a world that desperately needs them. And I also share my own voice, insights, and stories through my new solo podcast, Beth of Fresh Air.
