"Make beautiful things, even if nobody cares."

That simple meme I posted on Instagram led to one of those conversations that seems to have a life of its own.

Marisa Love responded with a reflection on what it's like to carry a worldview that has often lived outside the mainstream, to keep creating when very few people seem to understand, and to discover that making beauty is its own nourishment.

Here's how she responded to my post:

“As someone who has always had a fringe as fuck world view as WELL as spiritual beliefs outside the norm, I feel this deeply. It's strange when society catches up to what we've been saying for years, but by then we have moved PAST that and into new "out there" territory so it's like no matter what, the % of people that will "get" us remain very small.

I lost track of how many times people have made assumptions about my world view that were based solely on what they needed me to be, despite things I've said that would paint a different story. People really will only receive what they want to, and being "out there" in every chapter of life has been frustrating.

There's such a wild curve for people remembering/unlearning/awakening that it can feel very isolating and pointless to be speaking and being out of bounds on a different time table than most. It's both heartening AND annoying when things come to "light" decades after being called crazy for it. Good news bad news. The Art of the Wildflower is not for the weak! 😝🪻🫠💋 Great post. I appreciate you! MAKING BEAUTY helps the world, even when it feels like it falls on deaf ears and blind eyes, because of that feeling you mentioned! That FUCK YEA I AM FULL feeling. 🔥🔥🔥 So...we keep going!”
